CHILD DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATE DEGREE

 

 

The Child Development Program, affiliated with AUZEF, is a two-year open education associate degree program.
Objective of the Program; 
The goal is to train experts who embrace the importance of child development and education, recognize the development characteristics of children aged 0–18, gain knowledge about their habits and needs, and can take preventive measures for problems children may encounter. The program also aims to train qualified experts who can recognize children with special educational needs, organize suitable educational environments for these children, and are conscious about maternal health.

 

DETAILED INFORMATION

The Child Development Associate Degree Program aims to provide students with:

  • Planning, preparing, and implementing activities most suitable for children's developmental characteristics,
  • Effective communication with children, parents, and other stakeholders,
  • Using technology and tools effectively in the field of child development,
  • Applying appropriate teaching strategies, methods, and techniques considering children's developmental characteristics and individual differences,
  • Developing suitable materials for children's needs, keeping records in application activities, and organizing documents and reports,
  • Planning and implementing activities for children with special educational needs,
  • Having knowledge and skills in child health and diseases and being able to use, prepare, develop, and maintain the equipment, materials, and documents in the working environment.

 

 

APPLICATION CONDITIONS

  • Registration through YKS (Higher Education Institutions Exam)
    • You can choose the program after taking the YKS. If you are placed in our faculty by ÖSYM, you will earn the right to enroll.
  • Enrollment without Examination under the Second University Scheme

COURSES AND COURSE MATERIALS

The Child Development Associate Degree Program consists of mandatory courses in Child Development, Children and Play, Developing Tools in Preschool Education, Special Education, and Child Health. A significant feature of the program is that all course materials are prepared using e-learning methods. The Teaching System Platform is arranged to meet all needs, and the system is loaded with lecture notes, presentations, videos, and advanced teaching materials as Phase 2 contents, with no printed material available.

EXAMS AND ASSESSMENT

Exam Format
Exams for each course are conducted face-to-face under supervision, including at least one midterm, one semester/year-end final, and a make-up exam each year/semester. The rules applied during the exams are determined by the approval of the Faculty Board and announced to the students.

About Exam Practices
The exams conducted by our faculty are generally in the form of multiple-choice tests. There are 20 questions for each course, and 30 minutes are allotted for answering the questions.

GRADUATION

  • Successfully completing the required credit/ECTS amount as decided by the Faculty Board,
  • Not having a grade of FF in any course,
  • Having a cumulative GPA of 2.00 or above,
  • Taking all the mandatory courses for all semesters.

    • Note: The number of ECTS credits can be increased by the decision of the Faculty Board.

 

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Graduates of the Child Development Associate Degree Program can work as:

  • Teaching assistants in private kindergartens and preschools,
  • Administrators and teaching assistants in special education and rehabilitation centers,
  • Master instructors in preschools and primary schools under the Ministry of National Education,
  • Parent educators in private research and consultancy firms,
  • Staff in Mother and Child Health Centers,
  • Carers in Residential Treatment Institutions and Social Services Child Protection Institutions,
  • Designers in the children's publications and toys sectors,
  • Child care workers for children of working parents.

 

CHILD DEVELOPMENT INTERNSHIP 

In addition to theoretical and practical courses, our students will have the opportunity to undertake a Child Development Internship during the spring term of their second year (4th semester). This internship is aimed at enhancing their professional knowledge, skills, behaviors, and attitudes, gaining insight into the sector, easily adapting to work life, and gaining experience in production and service environments. The duration of the internship is 20 working days, and the assessment is given as "Successful" or "Unsuccessful".

Students can complete their internships at the following institutions:

1- Related units of Ministry of Health and university hospitals (pediatrics, child psychiatry clinics), Ministry of Health's mother-child health centers, health clinics.  

2- Nurseries, kindergartens, primary, and middle schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education (public or private). Guidance and research centers, Special Education and Rehabilitation Centers, Public Education Centers, Psychological Counseling and Guidance Centers, Educational Application Schools.  

3- Family Counseling Centers under the Directorate of Social Services, Community Centers affiliated with Child Protection Institutions, General Directorate of Social Services and Child Protection Agency's Child Houses.

4- Child courts and educational houses affiliated with the Ministry of Justice. 

5- Children's Press and Broadcasting Organizations 

6- Volunteer organizations (STK) like UNICEF, ILO.
